Marjorie Rosella Laing, 88, formerly of Humboldt, passed away at her daughter’s home in Rolfe on Sunday morning, February 12, 2023, following an extended illness.
Marjorie was born December 31, 1934 in Ruthven, Iowa, the daughter of Dwight and Lola (Clark) Hampson. She grew up in Ruthven and moved with her family to Humboldt around 1947, graduating from Humboldt High School in 1952. She worked at Humboldt Trust and Savings Bank for a year and then was employed at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. Marjorie was united in marriage to Gordon Laing on July 10, 1955. The couple made their home in Humboldt where they owned Laing Auto Supply. She worked at Burnell College of Cosmetology as a secretary, then joined her husband in their family business until they retired in July 1994. She was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.
Marjorie is survived by her children Mark (Patricia) Laing of Humboldt and Theresa “Terri” Kipfer (Steve Hulgan) of Rolfe, her grandchildren Nick (Amber) Laing of Adel and Candice Laing of Humboldt, her great-grandchildren Alexis and William Laing of Humboldt and Athena Laing of Adel and her sister Shirley Decker of Humboldt. She was also cherished by Sean, Isabel, Charlie, Jason, Braxton and Maisy, who loved her as their “Big Grandma.” She was preceded in death by her parents, infant sister Elizabeth, infant brother Kenneth, Husband Gordon, son-in-law Todd Kipfer and her brother-in-law Terry Decker.
