Marjorie A. Perry, 90, of Humboldt, passed away December 8, 2015 at the Humboldt Care Center North. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 14, 2015, at the Oak Hill Church in Humboldt with Pastor Doug Wolter officiating. Interment will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 12:30 – 1:30 Monday at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Marjorie Adelia Perry, the daughter of Jesse and Estella Perry, was born January 3, 1925 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was raised and educated at Harrisburg, South Dakota and graduated from high school in 1942. She attended Augustana College at Sioux Falls for two years before going to work for National Reserve Life Insurance Company. She then began her teaching career at Bruce, SD before moving briefly to Hawarden, Iowa and then to Pocahontas, Iowa in 1960 where she taught the fifth grade.
In 1966, Marjorie received her degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Library Science from Black Hills State College at Spearfish, SD. She then became the librarian at Pocahontas Schools until moving to Humboldt in 1970 where she served as the High School Media Specialist until her retirement in 1988.
Marjorie was a member of Oak Hill Church in Humboldt. She was a charter member of the Alpha Omega Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International where she served as Chapter President. She also served on the state level including State Editor for twenty years and on the International Communications Committee for two terms. In 1997, Marjorie was honored with the Delta Kappa Gamma State Achievement Award.
She was also a member of the Humboldt Women’s Club, Federated Women’s Club, National Education Association, AAUW, Iowa State Education Association, Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle, the Republican Women, and Retired School Personnel.
In addition to her many friends and former students, Marjorie is survived by her only living relative, cousin, Robert Beck of Arizona.
