Mark Douglas Dale was born December 22, 1950, to Ivan and Eunice (DeGroote) Dale and passed away suddenly May 11, 2021, at his home in Bode.
Mark went to Twin Rivers School, graduating in 1969. He was involved in sports, especially baseball. Following graduation, Mark attended Eagle Grove Junior College and then enlisted in the United States Navy. He served as a Navy corpsman at the Great Lakes Navy Hospital. After returning to Bode, he worked at the Ottosen Elevator, Walnut Grove Company, and Dodgen industries, where, using his carpentry skills, he made cupboards.
Following retirement, Mark worked in the spring and fall planting and harvesting for Russ Larson where he loved driving that big combine. Mark served on the Bode City Council for many years. He was an animal lover and was known for feeding stray cats and the many birds in his yard. He was a diehard University of Alabama football fan. He was an avid reader, especially books about the military and history. He enjoyed fishing trips with friends. One of his greatest joys was to travel every summer to Kalispell, Montana, near Glacier National Park, to visit his family. He would take Iowa sweet corn and bring back Flathead cherries for many of his friends in Bode. Every morning while in Kalispell, Mark would be found sitting on the deck drinking coffee and eating his very favorite chocolate donuts, while admiring the beautiful mountain view.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Eunice Dale, and his niece Lisa Malmin Eckert. He is survived by his sister Marcia Dale Malmin, nephews Ryan and Shannon Malmin, Nathan and Kelly Malmin, great-nephews Walker and Dylan and great nieces Ande, Kaysie, and Ava, all who reside in Kalispell, Montana, and Dr. Steven Eckert and great nephew Jonah of Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Mark’s wishes were to be cremated and his ashes spread on the mountains in Montana. He will be missed by his family and many long-time friends and especially Buster and Lizzie, his long-time cats.
A Memorial Gathering with military rites by the Sathers-Odgaard American Legion will be held June 12th starting at 1:00 p.m. at the Bode Community Center in Bode. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service of Humboldt is in charge of the arrangements.
