It has pleased Almighty God to call to Himself in heaven the soul of Mark Frederick Meyer, who passed away Saturday morning, February 22, 2025 at the Westview Care Center in Britt. He was 71 years old.
Mark Frederick Meyer was born on July 13, 1953 in Algona to Victor and JoAnn (Balgeman) Meyer. He spent the first 18 years of his life on a farm near Ottosen with his parents and siblings. In 1971, he and his family moved to Humboldt. Everyone remembers Mark riding his bike all over town and making many acquaintances. During his adult years, he was involved with various work programs for the handicapped. He worked at the Humboldt Workshop for a while doing recycling. Mark is remembered for his love of cars. He enjoyed vacuuming cars and washing windows. He also enjoyed collecting caps and always wore a cap.
After his mother passed in 2000, Mark continued living with his father at home. The father/son relationship between Vic and Mark was strengthened. For over 20 years they were a mutual blessing to each other. In 2021 they both moved to Humboldt Care Center South.
After Vic’s death in 2022, Mark began a new chapter in his life. In 2023, Mark moved to Westview Care Center in Britt which provided him with a new family. His daily routine included making the rounds and visiting staff members. The staff selected Mark to be crowned the king of Westview and be featured in the Britt Hobo Day parade. He made daily phone calls to Jo Ellen, Sharon, or Dana because family was important to him. Some of his favorite quotes were “It’s in God’s hands”, “Not my religion”, and “You’re ornery!”
Mark is survived by siblings Jo Ellen (Doug) Brightman of Ft. Dodge, Dana (Dana Renae) Meyer of Omaha, Nebraska, Doreen Miller of Britt, and Sharon Meyer of Fort Dodge. He is also remembered by 2 nephews and 4 nieces.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Brian and Kevin, and brother-in-law Russ Miller.
We praise and thank our gracious God for the gift of faith He gave to Mark, and we look forward to the blessed reunion to come in Christ’s presence.
