Mary Lou Benda, 97 of Humboldt passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at the Humboldt Care Center North, in Humboldt.

Mary Lou was born to Leo and Ruby (Frizzel) Yard on April 5th, 1923 in Omaha, Nebraska. She attended St. Bernard’s Catholic grade school, St. John’s Catholic High School and Secretarial College all in Omaha. She was married to Leo W. Benda on March 6, 1943 until his death January 24, 1995.

Her interests included her church, home and family. Mary Lou was a loving mother and grandmother, a true blessing to her family and a friend to all. Her faith in God saw her through many trials in her life. She was quite active in her parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Humboldt, for 61 years. Her love for singing was shared by participating in the church choir for many years. Her interests included sewing, reading, golf, gardening, and especially oil painting; which she enjoyed to her last days.

She is survived by her children, Thomas (Judy) Benda of Chardon, Ohio, John (Veronica) Benda of Phoenix, Arizona, Michael Benda of Humboldt, William (Marajo) Benda of Marshalltown, Kathleen (Steve) Curry of Humboldt and Robert (Mary) Benda of Stanhope, 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren, her brother, William Yard of Ashland, Nebraska and several nieces and nephews. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband Leo, her parents, her brother Jack O. Yard and sister Donna Jane Yard.

Mary Lou was a kind gentle soul with a beautiful smile that will be missed by family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Humboldt. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Humboldt
