Mary Tofteberg

Mary Anne Tofteberg, 69, of Humboldt, formerly of Bode, passed away on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at Bickford Cottage in Fort Dodge following a lengthy illness.

Mary was born November 9, 1955 in Fort Dodge, the daughter of John and Anne (Malkmus) Renquist. She grew up on a farm near Livermore and attended Twin River Schools. In 1972 the family moved to Humboldt where she finished high school graduating from Humboldt High School in 1974. She then went on to attend Iowa Central Community College. Mary was united in marriage to Glen “Alan” Tofteberg on July 16, 1977 in Bode. The couple made their home in Humboldt for a short time before moving to Bode and raising their family. Mary started in the kitchen at Twin River Schools once her children were enrolled and worked up to be head of the lunch program and in charge of cooking at the school in Bode where she remained for 11 years. In 2004, Mary started with the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital dietary department and remained for 18 years, retiring in 2015. Mary enjoyed camping with family when the kids were younger, traveling, exploring various locations along the Mississippi River, time in the winters in San Diego, California, doing word search puzzles, coffee with the group at the Bode Library and time with friends.

Mary is survived by her husband Alan of Humboldt, her children, Shane Tofteberg and Sarah (Trent) Chambers, grandchildren, Jackson and Carson, sister Jane (Bob) McBurney all of Humboldt, sister-in-law Rochelle McKay of Fort Dodge and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Dennis Renquist.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14th at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Bode. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 13th at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation in Humboldt. Burial will be in St. Olaf Cemetery in Bode. www.masonlindhart.com
