Dean Bassett, 84, formerly of Humboldt, passed away July 31, 2016 at Victorian Manor in Pace, Florida. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Alberta Ervin officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation with the family will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is assisting the family.
Mr. Bassett is survived by his two daughters, Terry (Paul) Swanson of Pace, FL, and Kayla (Ken Mudd) Bassett of Birmingham, AL; and his three grandchildren, Brett, Arielle, and Tyler Swanson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pat, in November of 2014.
Merrill Dean Bassett, the son of Merrill Clark and Mildred Lucille (Crow) Bassett, was born November 10, 1931 in Corning, Iowa. He was raised and educated at Corning and graduated from Corning High School in 1949. Following his education, He was united in marriage to Patricia Spoonemore on October 4, 1950. The couple made their home in Corning where Dean worked as a lineman for the rural electric cooperative. In 1967, the family moved to Humboldt and Dean went to work for Christensen’s Oil Company. He then worked for various manufacturing companies retiring from Harklau Leisure Trailers in 1996.
Dean and Pat continued to maintain their home in Humboldt until December 1, 2013 when they moved to Pace, Florida to be close to their daughter. Dean was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge.
