Monica M. Behnkendorf, 91, of Algona, formerly of Bode, passed away September 11, 2012 at the Algona Manor Care Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. J.K. Raether officiating. Interment will be in LuVerne Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-7:30 p.m. Monday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Monica is lovingly remembered by her daughter, MaryAnn (Don) Walker of Springfield, MO; her sons, James (Margaret) Behnkendorf of Geneseo, IL, Robert (Patricia) Behnkendorf of Algona, and Dennis Behnkendorf of Bradgate; eight grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; two sisters; and one brother.
Monica Marie Fouarge, the daughter of Philip and Rose (Stalzer) Fouarge, was born August 28, 1921 at Bode, Iowa. She was baptized August 31, 1921 at St. Joseph Church. She attended parochial school at St. Joseph and was confirmed into faith on January 18, 1942 at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church at LuVerne. On January 19, 1942, she was united in marriage to Edward F. Behnkendorf at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in LuVerne. The couple farmed in the LuVerne area until 1957 when they moved to the Bode and Ottosen area. They farmed there until 1963 when they moved to Bradgate and farmed until 1967. For many years, Monica was employed by the Humboldt Reminder. In 1981, the couple made their home in Bode and Mr. Behnkendorf passed away on April 2, 1995. In August of 2009, Monica became a resident of the Algona Manor Care Center.
Monica was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt. She enjoyed baking sewing, playing cards, and the company of many friends. She was very proud of her family.
