Muriel A. Jensen, 89, of Humboldt, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022 in the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.
Muriel was born March 28, 1933, in Wesley, Iowa, the daughter of George and Opal (Miller) Schutjer. She grew up on her parents farm near Woden, Iowa, where she enjoyed gardening & canning with her mother and showing registered shorthorn 4-H club calves from her father’s herd. She completed grade school in a one-room school Southeast of Titonka and graduated from Titonka High School in 1952. On March 30, 1958, Muriel was united in marriage to Everett Jensen in Titonka. The couple made their home in Humboldt where they raised their family.
Muriel worked as a medical secretary for Lutheran Hospital, Humboldt County Memorial Hospital and later for Dr.'s Steve Gidel & Hal Schuchman in their dentistry practice. She was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and enjoyed cooking, gardening, socializing and entertaining family and friends. Muriel very much enjoyed boating with her husband, sons & friends at North Twin Lakes and on Lake Nokomis from their riverside home west of Humboldt where both Muriel and Everett became avid bird watchers and wintertime bird feeders identifying over 75 species of birds in the winter of 1978. She also loved playing cards, especially 500.
She is survived by her sons, Scott (Carol) Jensen of Olathe, Kansas and Robert (Dana) Jensen of Dakota City; five grandchildren, Kelsey (Mike) Megaris, Dr. Abbie Jensen, Ross Jensen, Christina Jensen and Alec Jensen; three great-grandchildren, Lucas, William and Brady as well as other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Everett; brothers, Robert, Donald and Dick and her grandson, Allan.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday at Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home and after 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service of Humboldt is in charge of the arrangements.
