Nancy Mae Niles, 80, of Humboldt, passed away July 13, 2018 at the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 Tuesday, July 17, 2018, in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt.
Nancy Mae Craig, the daughter of Jack and Janet (Hertig) Craig, was born February 22, 1938 at Algona, Iowa. Nancy attended school at Stratford and helped care for the family after her father was injured. On March 7, 1956, she was united in marriage to Alfred Niles and to this union three sons were born. The family made their home in the communities of Mason City and Eagle Grove before moving to Humboldt.
Nancy worked as a cake decorator and egg candler and helped with domestic work in area homes. Mr. Niles passed away in December of 1986 and she continued to maintain her home. She became acquainted with and engaged to Mr. Jerry Buckley and they made their home in Forest City for many years until Jerry’s death when she returned to Humboldt.
Nancy’s favorite pastime was roller-skating and she loved to bake. She especially loved her family which includes her sons, Richard, Jim, and Alan; 12 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; her sisters, Joyce Brownfield, Jane Green, and Joan Craig all of Humboldt, and Jean Smith of Liberty, MO; and brothers, Jerry Craig of Britt and Dean Craig of Tucson, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alfred Niles; her fiancé, Jerry Buckley; and her daughter-in-law, Teresa Niles.
