Ona is survived by children, Laurie (Frank) Der of Cocoa, FL, LeeAnn (Mark) Daggy of Des Moines, Kirk Hanson of Humboldt, and Lona Hanson-Wilson of Humboldt; her sister Sandra of Humboldt; 18 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth D Hanson; parents, Glenn and Cleo Tubbs; son, Merle “Bernie” Hanson; brother, Arlo and sister, Wanda.
Ona was born March 13, 1930 at home near Rutland, Iowa to parents, Glenn and Cleo Tubbs. Her early school years were at West Maple Grove School with graduation from High School at Rutland in 1948. She spent some time working in Humboldt and was married April 29, 1951 to Kenneth D. Hanson at the United Methodist Church in Rutland. Their first home was just outside of Thor on the place her husband’s father and mother, Peter and Isabelle Hanson, farmed. Their life together as farmers also took them to Ottosen, Bradgate, Minnesota, and Rutland where they farmed the same farm for over 40 years raising hogs, cattle, and row crops. They retired in Rutland and lived in the yellow house on the corner across from the Rutland School.
Along with her husband, she enjoyed square dancing, polka dancing, and watching sports; baseball, college and high school wrestling and basketball. She had a great love for being outside gardening, tending flowers, feeding the birds and other creatures at her home. Giving and sharing whatever she could or had was who she was.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the Rose Mill Park in Rutland in loving memory of Ona Hanson.
