Patricia G. Newell, 74, of Dakota City, passed away May 15, 2017 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Memorial services, officiated by Pastor Christy Ehrle, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017, in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. A reception and lunch will follow at the funeral home. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt.
Patricia G. Newell was born January 18, 1943 in Ellenville, New York. Her family made their home in New Jersey where Patricia was raised and educated. In 1978, she moved to Bode, Iowa. Patricia was trained as a nurse’s aid and worked for area nursing homes until going to work for the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. While in Bode, she was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and took great pride in teaching her students the Lord’s Prayer. She later made her home in Dakota City where she remained until her death.
Patricia Loved going to garage sales and spending time with her good friends, Kay Bradford, MaryAnn Johnson, and the late Vera Bickford. She enjoyed collecting cookie jars of all types and her past time was spent crocheting, going to garage sales, working on puzzles, card playing, reading mystery novels, and going for drives with family and friends. Patricia loved Christmas and owned a vast collection of ornaments and snowmen. Above all, Patricia loved the time she spent with her grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Bobby Newell of Newport, RI, Diane (Terry) Tindle of Melbourne, FL, Tom Newell of Fort Dodge, Sue (Troy) Koob of Humboldt, Doug (Cindy) Newell of Des Moines, and Liz Firestone of Lincoln, NE; her grandchildren, Brittnie Newell, Nick Berte, T.J. Koob, Macy Koob, Alex Firestone, and Ariana Erickson; and her brother, Richie Justice of Scranton, PA. Her mother, Betty Elizabeth Vandermark, and her son, Robby Newell, preceded her in death.
