Patrick V. Vanderhoff, 70, of Gilmore City, passed away October 25, 2014 at the Paula J Baber hospice house. Pat, the son of Vincent and Lucille (Grice) Vanderhoff, was born April 21, 1944 just outside of Clare, Ia. The family moved to Gilmore City when Pat was quite young.Pat, having had a strong work ethic, started making money as a youth carrying newspapers and then carrying groceries for Fisher’s grocery store. In addition to being a volunteer fireman for Gilmore City, Pat worked many 13-hour days running heavy equipment before retiring after 46 years with Martin Marietta Aggregates.
He married Linda Martin in 1963 and the couple made their home in Gilmore City. To this union three children were born. The marriage was later dissolved. In 1986, he was united in marriage to Peg Peterson at the Little Brown Church at Nashua.
Pat enjoyed working with the guys at the quarry and spending time socializing with friends and family. He frequently got a special gleam in his eye when he thought he was pulling a good one on someone, and he was known for remembering the historical details of the various happenings around Gilmore City.
Pat is survived by his wife, Peg; his daughter Christy (Kenny) Markwardt of Webster City and children: Cara Anderson, Adam Hove, and Jennifer Olson, his son Mike (Rita) Vanderhoff of Gilmore City and children: Cody Vanderhoff and Paige Vanderhoff, and his daughter Julie (Steve) Edwards and children: Brandon Edwards and Jordan Edwards, 6 great grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Hailey, Emma, Brodee, Ian, and Lilly as well as 4 brothers and 3 sisters: Jane Fawcett of Ft. Dodge, Frank Vanderhoff of Humboldt, Cathy (Lynn) Bendixen of Humboldt, Fred (Marsha) Vanderhoff of Gilmore City, Mary (Bill) Dawson of Gilmore City, Joe (Ellen) Vanderhoff of Dakota City, and Matt Vanderhoff of Humboldt.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Michael and Edward, and brother-in-law Mike Fawcett.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at Faith Community Church at rural Palmer. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Interment will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
