Paul W. Parsons, 92, passed away October 24, 2014 at the Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines. Graveside funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt. Arrangements are being handled by the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt.
Paul graduated from Humboldt High School in 1939 and spent the next 45 years farming the family farm south of Humboldt. The farm is rich in heritage, farmed by Paul’s ancestors for 100 years. A great source of pride for Paul was the honor of receiving the State Century Farm award.
While living in Humboldt, Paul was very active in the Isaac Walton League, serving in various offices including several terms as president. Upon retirement, Paul moved with his wife, Katie to Arnolds Park. The motor home logged thousands of miles as they wintered in Texas and spent summers in their home on East Okoboji. Fishing was his favorite past time and he loved to entertain his guests with perch and blue gill fish fry’s. As a member of the National Square Dome Campers, he and Katie traveled the Midwest attending national camporees and especially enjoyed their travels to Alaska and Nova Scotia. After their move to Spencer, the traveling and camping continued until Paul reluctantly turned over the motor home keys at the age of 90. Paul loved people and meeting new friends. He was curious about everything and loved a good joke. He loved to be busy, have a good time, and help others. He created many memories, made close life long friends, and will be dearly missed.
Paul is survived by his wife, Katie Parsons; children, William (Barbara) Parsons of Newport, WA, and Linda (James) Wagoner of Longwood, FL; Grandchildren, Belinda (William) Wayland, William (Michelle) Parsons, Jr., Erin Wagoner, and John Wagoner; 7 great-grandchildren; and brother, Cecil (Norma) Parsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Harold Parsons and Carl Parsons.
