Perry Raymond Lanning, the son of William and Mildred (Cran) Lanning, was born May 10, 1925 on a farm near Gilmore City. He received his education at Bradgate and graduated from Bradgate High School. Following his education, Perry worked briefly in Fort Dodge before beginning his long career with Corn Belt and REC power cooperatives. On September 26, 1953, he was united in marriage to Esther Jeanine Hanrahan and the couple made their home briefly in Humboldt before moving to Dakota City. After retirement following 40 years as a bookkeeper for REC, Perry and Jeanine enjoyed traveling and time spent with their grandchildren. He liked college football and especially enjoyed following the Iowa Hawkeyes. An avid reader, Perry enjoyed keeping up with current events. Mrs. Lanning passed away in 2001 and Perry continued to maintain his home until becoming a resident of Bethany Life Community in December of 2005.
