Ralph L. Bowen, 75, of Humboldt, passed away May 5, 2012 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Ralph LeRoy Bowen, the son of Milo and Agnes (Crumbaker) Bowen, was born June 28, 1936 in Humboldt County, Iowa. He received his education in Country Schools and graduated from Humboldt High School. Following his education, Ralph enlisted in to the United States Army and following his discharge, attended Iowa State University. He was united in marriage to Beverly Torkelson on July 2, 1960 and the couple made their home in Humboldt County. Ralph reentered the service and the couple was stationed in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Fort Rucker, Alabama, and Fort Hood, Texas. In 1972, they moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa where Ralph helped his wife in her Accounting business. The couple retired in 1999 and in 2003, they moved to Humboldt. Mrs. Bowen passed away in October of 2004 and Ralph continued to maintain his home in Humboldt.
Ralph was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and became a Lay Minister through Stephen Ministries. He was also active in Habitat For Humanity and Hospice. Ralph was an avid reader, especially enjoying western fiction and religious reading. He also enjoyed daily coffee with his friends.
Ralph is survived by his son, Russell (Liessa) Bowen of Chapel Hill, NC; daughters, Jodi (Todd) Punke of Wausau, WI, and Audrey Upah of Ames; 5 grandchildren; and his sister, Betty Hood of Humboldt. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly; infant son, Albert; and sister, Lila Sandusky.
