Ramona L. Hodges, 88, of Humboldt, passed away February 3, 2017 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2017, at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Alberta Ervin officiating. Burial will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Ramona Lee Davis, the daughter of James Milton and Lela Maple (Hall) Davis, was born December 23, 1928 at Logan, Iowa. She was raised at Logan where she attended school and graduated from Logan High School. Following her education, Ramona worked in the Harrison County Recorders Office. On December 23, 1948, she was united in marriage to Elwin Hodges. The couple made their home in Logan until moving to Garner, Iowa in 1955 where Ramona was busy as a homemaker and raising her children. In January of 1959, the family settled in Humboldt where Ramona worked in the Humboldt County Treasurers Office.
Ramona was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church and the UMW. She worked hard supporting Elwin in his Lions Club duties and worked for the Sight Conservation Program for Children. She took great pride in her yard and vigorously fought dandelions. She could often be seen riding her bicycle around town and loved writing letters to friends and family.
Those left to cherish Ramona’s memory are her husband of 68 years, Elwin Hodges of Humboldt; her sons, Dennis (Donna) Hodges of Evansville, IN and Terry (Carmen Black) Hodges of Des Moines; grandchildren, Scott, Lisa, Katie, and Todd; 10 great grandchildren; and her brother, Charles Davis of Portland, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Betty Nemecek; and brother, James Davis.
Memorials will be used to benefit the Leader Dog Program.
