Richard Ingvald Severson, the son of Ed and Hannah (Haberstad) Severson, was born July 26, 1932 at Thor, Iowa and was baptized in the Ullensvang Lutheran Church. Richard received his education at Thor and graduated from Eagle Grove High School. Following his education, he enlisted into the United States Army and served in an artillery Unit during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home and began farming. On a blind date, Richard met Alice Pedersen and the couple was united in marriage on April 27, 1958 at the Danish Lutheran Church in Humboldt. The couple made their home in Thor for two years before moving to the Gilmore City/Bradgate area where they farmed together for 35 years. They were members of the First Lutheran Church at Gilmore City until moving to Humboldt in 1997. In addition to his farming operations, Richard was also employed full time with Farm and Home and later with the Chantland Co. until his retirement. In his retirement, Richard stayed active with his snow removal and lawn mowing service and filling in for vacationing custodians in the Humboldt School District.

Richard was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and in his younger years, played catcher for Eagle Grove High School and the Thor Cardinals town team. He loved his Norwegian family traditions and will be remembered for his kidding sense of humor. He enjoyed fishing and his many trips to Minnesota and Canadian Lakes with family and friends. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Richard is survived by his wife, Alice Severson of Humboldt; his children, David Richard Severson of Chicago, IL, Anita Kay (William) Prince of Omaha, NE, and Karla Ann (Dick) Michaelis of Waukee, IA; grandchildren, Joseph Martin Acamo, Jens E. Acamo, and Joshua Richard Acamo; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Lisa Marie; brothers, Edward and Kenneth; and his sisters, Magle Jansen.
