Richard Sorenson, the son of John “Jack” and Dorthea Kristina Maria (Johnson) Sorenson, was born April 6, 1934 in Humboldt County, Iowa. He was raised around Humboldt and Webster Counties as the family made their living during the depression. He began his first job at the age of 14 driving a bread truck for Supreme Bakery in Dakota City. He also worked for the brick plant and as a mechanic for area garages. He was united in marriage to Mary Martin on October 28, 1951 and the couple made their home in Renwick. In 1958, Richard established his trucking business hauling gravel and asphalt. In 1969, he went to work for the Highway Department where he became the foreman. He retired in 1999 after 30 years of service. In his retirement, Richard enjoyed camping and fishing. He loved the time he spent with his grandchildren and the many winters spent with his daughter in North Carolina. He especially loved working on his Model “A” Ford.

Richard served as a past mayor and council member for Renwick and was a charter member of the Model “A” Ford Club of Humboldt. He enjoyed playing cribbage and watching NASCAR, especially Jeff Gordon.
