Robert Joseph Campidilli, 80, of Humboldt, passed away Friday, January 17, 2020 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Robert was born in Fort Dodge on January 22, 1939. After graduating from Burnside High School in 1957, he moved to Havelock, Iowa to live with his family.
In 1961 Robert was drafted into the U.S. Army; following basic training, he was assigned to the Honest John Rocket Unit and was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas. During the 1962 Cuban Crisis, President J. F. Kennedy activated the unit. The men and equipment were sent by train to Fort Stewart, Georgia. Fortunately, the crisis passed without military action.
While serving in the Army, Robert married Chris Colee in May of 1962. Following his discharge in 1963, they made their home in Humboldt. Robert worked for Iowa Beef Packers. After Iowa Beef Packers closed, he began working for AON Corporation of Chicago until his retirement.
Robert loved living on their acreage allowing him the opportunity to pursue his favorite pastimes. He enjoyed taking his son Steven to compete in the American Junior Quarter Horse Show in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He also enjoyed the times he attended the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, Nevada. Robert’s family was his main passion, but he also enjoyed recreational card playing.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Gladys Campidilli, sister Cheryl Campidilli and brother James Campidilli.
Robert is survived by his wife Chris, son Steven of Urbandale, Iowa; grandchildren Meredith, Grace and Spencer, his sister Jean (Gary) Naeve of Humboldt, brothers William (Linda) Campidilli of Bouton and Ernest (Pat) Campidilli of Pocahontas and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews left to mourn Robert.
A Prayer Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. with visitation from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21st at Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home with military rites by Sathers-Odgaard American Legion. Private family burial will be in the Washington Cemetery in Havelock on Wednesday. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt is assisting the family.
