Robert L. Hanna, 88, of Humboldt, passed away April 10, 2016 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice House in Fort Dodge. A Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Father James Tigges, will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt. Interment will be in the Mausoleum at North Lawn Cemetery with full military honors by Adams American Legion Post 119 and Sathers-Odgaard VFW Post 5240. Visitation with the family will be from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
Robert Leon Hanna, the son of Leo and Lillian (Husske) Hanna, was born April 5, 1928 on a farm in Humboldt County and attended country schools. Following his education, Robert helped with the family farming operations and worked for a bakery in Fort Dodge. In 1950, he enlisted into the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Rucker in Alabama where he served as an MP and attained the rank of Corporal. On December 22, 1951, he was united in marriage to Sara Dorriety in Alabama. Following his honorable discharge in 1952, the couple returned home. They made their home in Humboldt County where they farmed together for many years. In 1990, they retired and moved into Humboldt. Mrs. Hanna passed away in May of 2012.
Robert was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing and camping trips and loved to pheasant hunt. He also enjoyed attending farm auctions.
Mr. Hanna is survived by his daughters, Debra Lynn Reilly of Gilbert, and Marcia (David) Thompson of Badger; grandchildren, Misty (Josh) Burke, Rob Thompson, Mason Reilly, and Morgan (Dave) Daniel; brother, Kenneth (Sharon) Hanna of Fort Dodge; and sisters, Harriett Bothne of Humboldt and Diane Essing of Kissimmee, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bernadine Scott and Lillian Johnson; brother, Wilford Hanna; and brother-in-law, L.D. “Red” Bothne.
