Robert Johnson, the son of Alan and Iona (Dunnaway) Johnson, was born February 2, 1950 at Fort Dodge, Iowa. At an early age, he moved with his parents to Palmdale, California where he received his education. Always a horse lover, Bob had the honor as a young man of riding an Arabian in the Rose Bowl Parade. A born mechanic, he overhauled his first diesel engine at the age of 13 and learned early on how to rebuild generators, alternators, and starter motors. Following the death of his father and after graduating from high school, Bob brought his mother back to Gilmore City and went to work for WH Goodrich as a mechanic before going to work for the International Dealership in Storm Lake. He then worked for his life-long friend Howard Lamb, D&F Trucking, R&J Material Handling, John’s Ag, and White Truck and Transfer until his semi-retirement. He continued to stay busy in his retirement with his own business, rebuilding generators, alternators, and starters.
In 1994, he was united in marriage to Denise Beuchle and the couple made their home in Gilmore City until moving to their acreage in 2008. Bob loved spending time in his shop, his 454 pickup, his dogs, and the time he spent in the pits for John Force Racing. Above all, he loved the time he spent with his family, especially his granddaughters, and his friends who will always remember his healthy sense of humor.
