Robert Kirkpatrick

Robert Kirkpatrick, of Humboldt, passed away on February 2, 2014 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.

Robert Eugene Kirkpatrick was born February 10, 1922 in Souris, Manitoba to Frank and Maude (Janes) Kirkpatrick.  When he was 10 months old, his parents returned to the United States and his childhood was spent primarily in Illinois and Ohio.

Immediately after Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was rejected due to a heart murmur.  He then enlisted in the RCAF and, upon receiving his wings, was deployed to England in 1943.  There he served with the RAF based in England and France for the duration of the war.  He returned to the States in the fall of 1945 and shortly thereafter married Virginia Sachs in Cleveland, Ohio.  They began their married life in Illinois and moved to Iowa in 1958.

Throughout his adult life he was involved in Ag business.  He was an adventurer, aviator, inventor, avid reader, and always a protector of nature.

Mr. Kirkpatrick is survived by his wife, Virginia; and his beloved children, son, John Kirkpatrick and daughter, Mary (Gail) Wetzel; grandchildren, Klayton Kirkpatrick, Krystal (Andrew) Schatz, Travis Wetzel, and Brenna Wetzel.  He was forever grateful for the love bestowed upon him by Barbara Kirkpatrick and Wendy and Chris Dittmar.  They were an extra gift from God.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, John Kirkpatrick.

At his request, there will be a private funeral in the chapel of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.  The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home is assisting the Kirkpatrick Family.
