Robert E. Martin, 86, of Humboldt, passed away January 4, 2018 at the Humboldt Care Center North. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Burial will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt, with full military rites by Adams American Legion Post 119 and Sathers-Odgaard VFW Post 5240. Visitation is from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Bob is survived by his brother, Gerald Martin of Wells, MN. His parents and his wife, Betty Martin, preceded him in death.
Robert E. Martin, the son of Ed and Dorothy Martin, was born March 18, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was raised in West Des Moines and graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines. Following his education, Bob enlisted into the United States Army during the Korean War. In December of 1951, while on leave, Bob was united in marriage to Betty Sievers. The couple made their home in White Sands, New Mexico where Bob served as a corporal and worked on the Nike Guided Missile Program until his honorable discharge in 1953. In 1955, he and his father established Martin Well Company in Dakota City. Bob continued to own and operate the business until his retirement. Mrs. Martin passed away in December of 2002 and Bob became a resident of the Humboldt Care Center North in August of 2008. He passed away there on the morning of January 4, 2018 at the age of 86.
Bob was a talented mechanic and enjoyed working on anything with an engine. He especially enjoyed his cars and motorcycles. He was a member of the Humboldt Boat Club and enjoyed fishing trips to Minnesota and snowmobiling in Wisconsin.
