Robert G. Solbeck, 77, of Humboldt, passed away August 18, 2011 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt with the Rev. Josh Swaim officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Robert George Solbeck, the son of George and Grace (Day) Solbeck, was born February 4, 1934 on the family farm near Humboldt. He received his education in country schools and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1952. Following his education, Bob was employed as a Service Technician for Montgomery Wards until going to work for Cargill. Bob later farmed for area farmers and worked for Agrico.
On May 29, 1955 Bob was united in marriage to Beverly Pederson at the Methodist Church in Humboldt and the couple made their home in Dakota City. In 1965, Bob and Bev moved to the family farm. Their farming operations included livestock and horses and he put his talent as a fabricator and inventor to good use. In 2001 they retired from farming and moved into Humboldt.
Bob was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church. He was an avid Ham Radio operator and held an advanced license. Bob served as past secretary/treasurer of the 3900 Ham Radio Club and was a part of a nationwide emergency communication system. He also enjoyed coin and stamp collecting, collecting “treasures”, and Nascar.
Bob is survived by his wife, Beverly of Humboldt; daughters, Cindy (John Klein) Schneider of Bode, Kathy (Ray) Saathoff of Humboldt, and Teresa (Scott) Slinger of Rolfe; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and sisters, Donna (Ralph) Olson of Humboldt, Marilyn Hundertmark of Humboldt, and Anita (Harold) Hinners of Humboldt. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Deb Haukoos; grandson, Josh Schneider; granddaughter, Amy Swanson; and brother-in-law, Norval Hundertmark.
