Roger W. Russell

Roger W. Russell, 79, of Humboldt, passed away December 17, 2013 at his home. Memorial services will be 3:00 p.m. Friday in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt. Visitation is from 2-3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Russell is survived by his wife, Carol of Humboldt; daughter, Linda (Steve) Illg of Dakota City; son, Todd (Kris) Russell of Livermore; grandchildren, Celine Webb, Jessica Webb, Tanner Illg, Tate Illg, Drake Russell, and Zane Russell; step sons, Gary Webb of Wisconsin, Mike (Lou) Webb of Missouri, and Rick Webb of Wisconsin; step grandchildren, Amber and Jerry Webb; and brothers, Bob, Billy, Mark, and Denny Russell. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Jim, Byron, and Jack Russell.
Roger William Russell, the son of William and Alma (Nelson) Russell, was born January 20, 1934 at Vermillion, South Dakota. He received his education at Vermillion, graduating in 1952. Following graduation, he spent two years in the United States Army. On January 20, 1962, he was united in marriage to Carol Grenfell Webb at Logan, Iowa and in 1968, the family made their home in Humboldt. Roger worked in the construction of grain elevators for Mid-States and later Quad States Construction until 1985. Roger then went to work as a salesman for Humboldt Motor Sales and Dodgen Industries, Inc. until going to work for Hog Slat.
Roger enjoyed gambling trips with Carol and spent much of his retired years going on his daily drives around town to check things out and calling his grandsons to see what they were up to.
