Rolland “Ron” Sander, 83 of rural Humboldt, passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
He was born December 18, 1934 in Dickinson County, Iowa, the son of Hugo Adolph and Lillian (Schuman) Sander. He was raised on a dairy farm in Dickinson County and graduated from Arnolds Park High School in 1953. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in Germany. Following his discharge, he attended Buena Vista College. Ron was united in marriage to Patricia L. Bradshaw on August 31, 1957 in Jackson, Minnesota. The couple made their home in the Quad Cities area, where he worked for Iowa Illinois Gas & Electric. In 1976 he was transferred to Fort Dodge to become a district operations supervisor and in 1978, the couple purchased their dream acreage in Humboldt County. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, the outdoors, caring for his yard and his faithful companion, Misha, but especially enjoyed the time he spent taking in his children’s and grandchildren’s activities.
He is survived by his wife, Pat of Humboldt, his daughters, Rhonna (Brett) Johnson of Des Moines, Deanna (Ron) Hansen of Dakota City, his grandchildren, Gaige, Teagan, Kallie, Aaron, Katie & Cortney, his great-grandchildren, Dylan, Dakota, Kolbie, Lennon, Aiden, Bentlie, Gabriel, & Laiyla, his sisters, Rosemary Saxon of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Marvelyn (John) Willison of Milford, Iowa and many nieces, nephews, cousins, Aunt Betty and 106 year old Aunt Willetta. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Florence Sander, his brother, Donald and his sister, Marilyn.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a Memorial Service to follow at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 25th at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Inurnment will be in North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to your favorite animal shelter.
