A Mass of Christian Burial for Rose Mary Dangelser, 85, of Humboldt, was held Monday December 31, 2012 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Humboldt. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt was in charge of arrangements.
Rose Mary Dangelser, the daughter of John and Victoria (Studer) Arend, was born April 1, 1927 at St. Benedict, Iowa. She attended St. Benedict Catholic School. Rose was united in marriage to Philip Dangelser on April 12, 1950 at St. Benedict, Iowa. They first made their home near Bancroft before moving to the Bode area. Their marriage was blessed by the birth of five sons. In 1961 they moved to Goldfield where the family farmed. Philip’s farm work allowed the family to move to the Fonda area in 1964. Rose worked part time as a cook in several establishments. Following Philip’s retirement in 1990, Rose and Philip made their home in Humboldt. Due to health conditions, Rose and Philip moved to the Bethany Life Community facilities in Story City, in 2007.
Rose was a member of St. Marys’ Catholic Church and the Ladies Society. Rose was also active in the Catholic Daughters of America. She belonged to a neighborhood Birthday Club. Rose was chosen as a Humboldt Independent (newspaper) “Cook of the Week”. She enjoyed cooking for her family, playing card games, attending her son David’s baseball games, gardening, visiting family, polka music, and in later years an occasional trip to a casino. Rose is survived by four sons, Gary (Connie) Dangelser of Bettendorf, IA, Lynn Dangelser of Racine, WI, Brian (Catherine) Dangelser of Ames, and David Dangelser of Kansas City, MO; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sisters Wilma Arndorfer of Algona; Norene Erpelding of Oelwein; Helen DeFrance of Plano, TX; and sister-in-law Marge Arend of Altoona, and many nieces and nephews and beloved friends. Rose was preceded in death by her parents; husband Philip; her son, Steven, her grandson, Casey; and her siblings: Louise Preuschl, Edward Arend, Rita Muller, Roman Arend, James Arend and Ruth Ann Arend.
