Rose Mary Diedrick, 83, of Humboldt, passed away November 4, 2020 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.
Rose Mary, the daughter of William and Helen (Stepka) Opichka was born August 30th, 1937 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. She was baptized on September 12, 1937 in St. Joseph’s Church in Kellnersville, Wisconsin and confirmed by Pastor Gilfort Meyer in St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Wausau, Wisconsin. She was raised on a farm near Cato, Wisconsin, and graduated from Reedsville High School, Reedsville, Wisconsin and was valedictorian of her graduating class. She attended Central State College, Stevens Point, Wisconsin where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics. She then taught home economics in the high school in Edgar, Wisconsin for four years. Here she met her future husband Jerry, who was also on the Edgar High School faculty. Rose Mary and Jerry were married in the Courtland Evangelical Lutheran Church on June 5, 1961. In 1964, the couple moved to Emmetsburg, where Rose Mary did substitute teaching until they moved to Humboldt in June of 1973 when they purchased the Kozy Korner Motel later naming it Corner Inn Motel. They retired from the motel business December 31, 2000. She enjoyed making candy, and also taught candy making classes in both Emmetsburg and Humboldt.
Rose Mary is survived by her sons Frank (Olga) Diedrick of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Eric (Amy) Diedrick of Matthews, North Carolina, Christopher (Ashley) Diedrick of Humboldt and son-in-law Robert Slinkard of Medicine Lodge, Kansas; grandchildren Victoria Slinkard, Ross Slinkard, Gunnar Diedrick, Cora Diedrick, Danica Diedrick and Jarrod Diedrick. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Jerry; her daughter Cecilia Diedrick Slinkard, and her parents.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 8th from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday, November 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Burial will be in Indian Mound Cemetery.
