Roxie L. Gregory, 76, of Rutland, passed away at her home on Sunday afternoon, February 26, 2023 following an extended illness.
She was born August 15, 1946 in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Bruce and Evalyn (Wallace) Gregory. She grew up in Rutland and in 1964 graduated from Humboldt High School. She attended Ellsworth Community College and later Iowa State Teachers College. After returning home she worked for the Wagon Wheel, Fireside and later the Blue Lantern in Rutland. Roxie attended Iowa Central Community College to obtain her Registered Nursing license and started with the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital first as a respiratory therapist and later an emergency room nurse, retiring in 2002. In retirement she became a massage therapist and worked for Cindy’s Chiropractic in Humboldt. She was musical and played the drums with various country western groups around the area, taught emergency medical technician classes, was instrumental in the revitalization of Rose Mill Park and served as the Mayor of Rutland for twenty-eight years until December 2022. Roxie enjoyed her dog Lily and cruising the streets of Rutland in her golf cart.
She is survived by her sisters Mickey Frankl and Kallie (Jim) Davis both of Rutland and her nieces and nephews Cory Frankl, Travis Frankl, Cristin Frankl, Libby Palmer, Ian Decker, Dillon Palmer, Josh Palmer and Zoey Decker. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 10th at Rose Mill Park, Rutland. A Memorial Gathering will follow with food at 5:00 p.m. In the event of rain, things will be held at the Rutland Community Center. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service is in charge of the arrangements.
