Ruby Mae Funk, 88, of Humboldt, passed away June 25, 2011 at Long Term Care of the Humboldt Hospital. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Gene Broughton and Rev. Matthew Manz officiating. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Ruby Mae Ernst, the daughter of Franklin and Minnie (Eisler) Ernst, was born July 31, 1922 at Rutland, Iowa. At the age of seven she moved with her family to Humboldt and lived in the same house until two years ago when she moved to Long Term Care at the Hospital. She married Ben Dodd on Aug. 20, 1943 and they made their home in Humboldt until his death on June 20, 1964. On Nov. 19, 1971 she was united in marriage to Fred Funk. Fred died on July 16, 1991.
Ruby worked at the DeKalb corn plant and also at the South Care Center. For 25 years she wintered in Texas but was always ready to come home to be near grandchildren, which was her pride and joy. She loved cooking and sharing recipes and enjoyed playing bingo and doing many crafts. Ruby was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt.
Ruby is survived by her son James (Linda) Dodd of Humboldt, daughters Mary Ann Cutting (Ken) of Fort Dodge and Jane (Earl) Houston of Littleton, CO.; grandchildren, Scott (Julie) Loftus, Dana (Rosy) Houston, Teresa (Steve) Faes, Trent (Jan) Houston, Ben (Becky) Dodd, Nathan Dodd and nine great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Ben Dodd and Fred Funk; brothers, Art and Franklin Ernst; sisters, Dorothy Terwilliger and Florence Hagg, two grand children David and John Cutting and a stepson Wayne Funk.
