Russ W. Miller, 55, of Humboldt, passed away January 31, 2017 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Aaron Flatau officiating. Burial will be in the West Bend Cemetery. Visitation is from 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Russ Warren Miller, the son of Asa and Edna (Noffsinger) Miller, was born August 3, 1961 in Elgin, Illinois. The family made their home in Carpentersville and Springfield, Illinois before moving to Bode, Iowa in 1975. In 1980, Russ graduated from Twin Rivers High School. He was united in marriage to Doreen Meyer on July 28, 2002 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt. The couple made their home in Humboldt where they were very happily married for 15 years.
Russ enjoyed helping his friends at Bode and loved sports, especially, baseball, wrestling, basketball, hockey, and football. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Blackhawks, Baltimore Ravens, and Indianapolis Colts. He was active in the Lions Aktion Club where he held the offices of president and treasurer, and was a member of a mixed bowling league with Doreen. For many years, Russ served as the scoreboard operator and on the football chain gang for TRV. He enjoyed playing cards at the Drop-In Center with friends and trips to Florida to visit Mat and his family. He was very good at trivia games and enjoyed playing his Play Station.
Those left to cherish Russ’ memory are, his wife, Doreen of Humboldt; half brother, Clarence “Mat” (Sheryl) Matias of Florida; In-laws, Vic Meyer of Humboldt, Joellen (Doug) Brightman of Fort Dodge, Sharon Meyer of Fort Dodge, Mark Meyer of Humboldt, Dana (Dana) Meyer of Creighton, NE; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Vicky in 2004.
