Ruth N. Christensen, 94, of Humboldt, passed away April 28, 2017 at The Algona Manor in Algona, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with Pastor Christy Ehrle officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Ruth N. Algoe, the daughter of Clarence and Ota (Carter) Algoe, was born October 22, 1922 at Vincent, Iowa. She attended country schools at Vincent and graduated from Fort Dodge High School. After receiving her teaching certificate, Ruth began her teaching career at Nora Springs before moving to Humboldt where she taught elementary school. On August 3, 1947, she was united in marriage to Robert H. Christensen at the United Methodist Church in Vincent. The couple made their home in Humboldt where they raised their family. Ruth served as a substitute teacher for the Humboldt Community School District and, for 19 years, served as an Avon Representative.
Mr. Christensen passed away in November of 2007 and Ruth continued to maintain her home in Humboldt until becoming a resident of Algona Manor in February of 2015. She passed away there on the afternoon of April 28th at the age of 94. Ruth was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church where she was active in UMW and served as Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, and served on the WAF Committee. Ruth especially enjoyed visiting with relatives, gardening, and sewing club
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Sonna (Roger) Gochenour and William Christensen both of Humboldt; grandchildren, Kendra (Matt) Johnson of Algona and Lindsay (Ross Murtle) Christensen of Gilmore City; great grandchildren, Sadie and Natalie Johnson and Kinnick Granahan. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert H. Christensen; her granddaughter, Kristen Gochenour; brothers, Edward and Francis Algoe; and sister, Norma Jean Hansen.
