Shirley Reimers

August 16, 1932 — April 14, 2016

Shirley Reimers, 83, of Humboldt, passed away April 14, 2016 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday , April 17th at the Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. J.K. Raether officiating. Burial will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation with the family will be 4-8 p.m. Saturday at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is assisting the family.

Shirley Miller, the daughter of Burrous and Esther (Rudnick) Miller, was born August 16, 1932 at Rodman, Iowa. She was raised at Emmetsburg and Burt and graduated from Burt High School in 1950. She was united in marriage to Harold W. Reimers on June 17, 1951 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona. The couple made their home in Algona and Burt before moving to Humboldt in 1960. For 26 years, Shirley worked as a nurse’s aid for the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital where she especially enjoyed working in the nursery. She also worked as a buss driver for Collins Bus Service for many years. She also helped Harold on his milk route and in her retirement enjoyed her work with Learn and Play Day Care.

Shirley was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt. She enjoyed crocheting and baking. In her later years, Shirley enjoyed “caring” for her neighbors at Springvale. She especially loved her children and grandchildren and stayed busy following their activities.

Shirley is survived by her children, Sue Reimers of Ames, Brian (Michelle) Reimers of Ogden, Tom (Marci) Reimers of Humboldt, Lori (Rick) Stein of Dakota City, Bruce (Sue Ann) Reimers of Humboldt, Steve Reimers of Humboldt, and Brenda (Tim) McCartan of Humboldt; 19 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren with two more on the way; her brother, David Miller of Sebeka, MN; and sister, Sharon Fortney of Austin, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, Burrous and Esther (Rudnick) Miller; her husband, Harold; daughter-in-law, Marci Reimers; brother, Ronald Miller; sister, Phyllis Miller; and nephew, Jeff Miller.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be given to causes special to Shirley.
