Shirley J. Vinsand, 71, of Dakota City, passed away unexpectedly on Friday evening, January 12, 2024 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge.
Shirley was born August 15, 1952, in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Eugene and Caryl (Heim) Vinsand. She grew up in Humboldt and Dakota City and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1970. She worked for Pasquales and Hadar Manufacturing during her high school years. She went on to attend La James College of Hairstyling. Shirley worked at New Image Salon for a number of years, later Farm Egg and then Electrolux in Webster City. She earned her CNA and was employed later as a nurse’s aide in the Long Term Care at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital until retiring in 2017. She was devoted to genealogy and looked forward to planning the genealogy booth each year at the Humboldt County Fair. She enjoyed taking care of her nieces and nephews and attending their activities. Shirley devoted some of her spare time as an advocate for many veterans, assisting them with obtaining their benefits.
She is survived by her sister Becky Hansen of Royal, Iowa, brother Gary (Tammy) Vinsand of Gilmore City, sister’s-in-law, LeAnn of Humboldt and Rhonda Vinsand of Dakota City, her nieces and nephews; Doug (Gina) Vinsand, Kimberly (Jason) McKenna, Michael (Amanda) Vinsand, Amy (Chris) Schommer, Jason (Tammy) Vinsand, Andrea (Rob) Hinton, Katie (Brady) Ginger, Amanda (Cody) Greenfield, Dale (Gena) Vinsand, Kristi (Joe) Boveia and Marci Vinsand, twenty-five great-nieces and nephews and one great-great niece. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Randy and Ronny Vinsand, her brother-in-law Terry Hansen and her niece Jenna Vinsand.
