Sibyl Elouise (Grisham) Sorensen, 91, passed away Friday, April 2, 2021, at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.
Sibyl, daughter of Arra and Belle (Taylor) Grisham, was born October 26, 1929 in Warren, Arkansas. She lived in Tinsman, Arkansas until age 13 when she moved with her family to Fort Dodge, Iowa. On January 25, 1947 she married Arthur Sorensen at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Humboldt. Art and Sibyl farmed near Pioneer until moving to Humboldt in 1977. Sibyl talked about picking cotton by hand at age 5 when she picked 100 pounds and earned $1 that she used to buy a doll. At age 13 she picked cotton in Arkansas and detasseled corn in Iowa near Pioneer the following summer. She liked to be in the company of kids, dogs and cats. She and Art enjoyed activities with the Pioneer neighbors and later with the Goodlife winter neighbors in Mesa, Arizona.
Sibyl is survived by her children Cal (Jane) Sorensen of Ames, Ardis Sorensen of Fort Dodge, Susan (Dan) Oviatt of Grand Junction, Colorado, Karen (Paul) Costello of Fort Dodge and Don Sorensen (Valoree) of Dakota City; her grandchildren Jason Sorensen, Nathan Sorensen, Laura Liddle, David Lenning, Dawn Gopi, Levi Oviatt, Jessica Barnett, Jackson Oviatt, Rosanna Oviatt, Nora Oviatt, Austin Moore, Karri Ertl, Jessica Webb and Connor Sorensen, 21 great grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Art, her granddaughter Jamie Hopkins and siblings Oleta, Owen, Wanda and Patsy.
Private family graveside services will be held Monday, April 5, 2021 at Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangement.
