Thomas F. "Tom" Tierney

Thomas F. “Tom” Tierney, 71, of rural Rutland, passed away unexpectedly on Monday morning, May 15, 2023.

He was born January 18, 1952 in Fort Dodge, the son of Francis and Iva (Fisher) Tierney.  Tom grew up in Fort Dodge and worked for the movie theatre there, later graduating from Fort Dodge Senior High School.  He obtained his Bachelor’s in Computer Science from Iowa State University and began his working career as an IT Specialist with the Fort Dodge Laboratories.   Tom was united in marriage to Jacqueline Piersel on September 22, 1990.  The couple made their home in Fort Dodge and started a family.  In 2002, they moved to an acreage near Rutland where they raised their family.  In 2013, he started with Wells Fargo Bank and was currently employed with them as a project manager.  He was a lifetime member of the Sierra Club, was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church where he sang in the choir and had served as a board member of the Humota Movie Group.  Photography was his passion.  He spent countless hours promoting Humboldt through his photography.

Tom is survived by his wife Jackie of rural Rutland, his children Katherine Tierney of Humboldt, Allen (Erin Quinn) Tierney of Ames and Mary Tierney of Rutland.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. this Thursday, May 18^th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Humboldt.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humboldt County Historical Museum, the Humota Movie Group or the Humboldt Area Arts Council.  The Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service is in charge of the arrangements.   www.masonlindhart.com
