Timothy Verne Smith, the son of Verne and Mary (Van Horn) Smith, was born September 15, 1956 in Fort Dodge. He was raised in rural Gilmore City and attended GC-B schools.
Tim was united in marriage to Denise Vitzthum on September 20, 1975 at St. Mary’s church in Humboldt. They made their home in Gilmore City and raised 3 children, Tim, Rachel and Greg. Tim worked hard and spent most of his years at West Bend Elevator, West Bend Red Power, and the Humboldt school district. Tim was a proud volunteer fire fighter for 37 years in Gilmore City and loved working on his family’s century farm along with helping other farmers.
Tim’s two greatest passions were spending time with his grandchildren and being at his shop, especially after hours with his friends. Tim enjoyed working on and restoring antique tractors, watching old western movies, and driving around town. Tim was known for his constant willingness to help anyone. He was a mentor to foster children and young men around town.
Tim is survived by his wife Denise of 42 years; his children Timmer Smith of Gilmore City; Rachel (Darren) Amundsen of St. Michael, MN; Greg (April) Smith of Gilmore City; 4 grandchildren: Riley, Sullivan, Abby and Oaklyn; brother Terry (Darlene) Smith of Humboldt; sister Peggy Smith of Dakota City; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Verne and Mary Smith, brother and sister-in-law Roger and Judy Finney, brother Mike Finney, and brother-in-law Mike Smith.
