Verna Skow, 99, of Humboldt, passed away October 26, 2014, at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Mrs. Skow is survived by her children, Linda (Joe) Miller of Ankeny, Paul Skow of Bode, Marlene (Pete) Coughlin of Champlin, MN, and Mike Skow of Rutland; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elliott; infant sister, Gladys Benz; and brothers, Gordon, Fred, and Arlon Benz.
Verna F. Benz, the daughter of Carl and Anna (Jensen) Benz, was born September 4, 1915 at Humboldt, Iowa. She received her education and graduated from Humboldt High School. She attended nursing school in Chicago and returned to work for Dr. Jensen in Humboldt. She was united in marriage to Elliott Skow on December 9, 1945. The couple made their home briefly in Humboldt before moving to a rented farm east of Rutland in 1949. In 1955, the couple moved to the home place where they farmed and managed their dairy operations together. In 1977, the couple moved into Humboldt and in 2004, they made their home at Springvale Senior Living. Mr. Skow passed away in 2010 and Verna continued to maintain her home until becoming a resident of the Long Term Care Unit of the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. She passed away there on the afternoon of October 26, 2014 at the age of 99.
Verna was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
