Vernell A. Medlang

October 3, 1926 — February 19, 2016

Vernell (Vern) A. Medlang, 89, of Humboldt, passed away on February 19, 2016 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Christy Ehrle officiating. Visitation is from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. Friday at the church. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt is in charge of arrangements.
Vern Medlang is survived by his children, DeVon (Kathy) Medlang of Colorado Springs, CO, Linda Kettner of Iowa City, Sheri (Bill) Petersen of Humboldt, Lori (Wayne) Jansen of Rockford, and Greg Medlang of Pittsburg, PA; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his his sister and two brothers. His first wife, Clarice, and their infant daughter, Roxanne, second wife, Bonnie, and parents preceded him in death.
Vernell Arden Medlang, the eldest son of Palmer and Alice (Thompson) Medlang, was born October 3, 1926 in Lake Mills, Iowa. He received his education at Joice, IA. Following his graduation from Joice High School in 1944, Vern went to work at the Farmers Cooperative Grain Elevator in Joice. He was united in marriage to Clarice Rusley of Joice on July 15, 1944 where they lived until her accidental death in 1950. Vern and Clarice are the parents of Roxanne, DeVon and Linda. On May 14, 1952 Vern was united in marriage to Bonnie Wilson from Kanawha, IA at the Little Brown Church at Nashua and the couple made their home at Joice until moving to Laurel, IA in 1957 when Vern accepted his first Manager's position at the Laurel Elevator. Vern and Bonnie are the parents of Sheri, Lori, and Greg. They then made their home at Grundy Center and Emmetsburg before moving to Humboldt in 1965 where Vern managed the elevator until his retirement in 1988. The couple remained active by managing apartment and condo complexes in Ankeny, Des Moines, and Minneapolis before retiring in Arizona. In 2000, they returned to the Humboldt area and in 2011, became residents of Springvale where the couple resided at Bonnie's death in 2014 and where Vern continued to reside until his death.
Vern loved Bingo, singing, the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, chocolate malts, sharing his chocolate stars, and especially his grandchildren.
