Vernon D. Grebner, 82, of Dakota City, passed away on Monday morning, December 17, 2018 at the Humboldt Care Center North.
He was born September 15, 1936 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of William and Mildred (Jessen) Grebner. He grew up in Badger, Thor and later the Renwick area. He was united in marriage to Jean A. Kiley on September 21, 1957. The couple made their home in Renwick and Vernon worked for the Farmers Co-op Elevator and later the Gold Eagle Elevator in Livermore, retiring in 2003. In retirement he worked as a farm hand for Roger and Sheryl Schipull. He enjoyed horseback riding, camping, fishing, hunting and spending time with his family and friends. He spoiled his dog, Rambo and loved his “stinky” cheese.
He is survived by his wife, Jean of Dakota City, his children, Michael (Lori) Grebner of Parkston, South Dakota, Deborah Krause of Eagle Grove, Cynthia (Scott) Barrick of Humboldt and Lisa (Jim) Harvey of Goldfield, nine grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, his sister, Nadine Hockel and his sister-in-law, Loretta Grebner both of Humboldt and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Shirley Byers, brother, Richard Grebner and brother-in-law’s Jack Gibbs, Virgil Byers and Duane Hockel.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. followed by a 7:00 p.m. Service of Remembrance on Thursday, December 20th at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
