It has pleased Almighty God to call to Himself in heaven the soul of Victor Henry Meyer, who passed away at Humboldt Care Center South surrounded by his loving family on March 6, 2022. He was 94, two days before his 95th birthday.
Victor Henry Meyer was born on March 8, 1927 in Fort Dodge to Martin and Esther (Licht) Meyer. He was baptized on April 3, 1927 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School at Lotts Creek, Iowa. He entered the US Army in 1945. He served in Germany and was discharged in November of 1946. On February 18, 1951 he was united in marriage to Jo Ann Marie Balgeman at Peace Lutheran Church in West Bend. They established their home on a farm near Ottosen from 1951 to 1971. Then they moved to Humboldt where Victor held various jobs throughout the years. He ran Meyer’s DX station for six years. After that he worked as a receiving clerk at Hotsy Corporation for seven years. Then he worked as a custodian for banks in Humboldt, Livermore, and Renwick until retirement.
Victor is survived by children Jo Ellen (Doug) Brightman of Fort Dodge, Mark Meyer of Humboldt, Dana (Dana Renae) Meyer of Omaha, Nebraska, Doreen Miller of Humboldt, and Sharon Meyer of Fort Dodge. He is also remembered by six grandchildren, Tracy (Todd) Porter, Brian (Courtney) Brightman, Stephanie (Taylor) Zimmerer, Stacey (Doug) Bosse’, Andrew (Michelle) Johnson, and Laura (Pierson) Taylor, and 14 great grandchildren. Victor was preceded in death by his parents, wife JoAnn in 2000, sons Brian and Kevin, son-in-law Russ Miller, and brothers Edgar, Elden, Paul, and Henry.
Victor began teaching Sunday School at age 19. He taught for 45 years and was named Outstanding Teacher of Iowa District West of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. He then taught adult Bible Class for years. He was a member of Rotary Club, Lutheran Layman’s League, and also sang in the church choir.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 11 at Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 10 at Zion Lutheran. Burial with military honors will be held at West Bend Cemetery.
We praise and magnify our gracious Lord for extending His salvation in Jesus Christ as Savior to Victor and all who put their trust in Him, and we look forward to the blessed reunion to come in Christ’s presence.
