Viola Malcolm, 86, of Humboldt, passed away August 22, 2008 at the Humboldt Care Center North. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday in the chapel of the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt with the Rev. Dennis Konkel officiating. Interment will take place in Marble Valley Cemetery, Gilmore City. Visitation is from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Viola is survived by her niece Liz (John) Matthews of Gilmore City; nephew, Tim (Natalie) Miller of Council Bluffs; great niece, Holly Matthews; great nephews, Willie Miller, Dirk Miller, and Jacy Mathews all of Gilmore City; and sister, Evelyn Miller of Gilmore City. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence; great niece Heitina Matthews; and brother-in-law, Ernest Miller.
Viola Cirks, the daughter of Dick and Tena (Peters) Cirks, was born July 1, 1922 on a farm in Pocahontas County. As a child she moved with her family to a farm near Gilmore City and received her education at the Iowa School For The Deaf. She was united in marriage to Clarence R. Malcolm on May 12, 1951 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge and the couple made their home at Marion, Iowa. Viola worked as a homemaker while Clarence was employed with the Highway Equipment Company in Cedar Rapids. In April of 1999, the couple moved to Humboldt. Mr. Malcolm passed away in October of 2000 and Viola continued to maintain her home until becoming a resident of the Humboldt Care Center North just one week ago.
Viola was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge and the Iowa Association of the Deaf. She loved time spent with family and enjoyed sewing. She and Clarence enjoyed watching the Iowa Hawkeye’s and traveling the country together.
