Viola Elfreda Schoeberlein, 95, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care.
Viola (Vi) the first born joy of Otto and Mary (Andersen) Andersen was born on March 21, 1923 in Livermore, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rutland, Iowa. She graduated from Livermore High School in 1941. Vi worked as a cosmetologist before her marriage to Donald Schoeberlein on January 13, 1945 at the Army Air Force Base Chapel in Malden, Missouri. After Don’s discharge they made their home in Humboldt where she was a homemaker.
Vi was a faithful member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and ELCW. She belonged to the Hospital Auxiliary and the Historical Society. Vi was very proud of her Danish heritage. She was an avid reader. Vi loved dancing with Don to Big Band Music. She made many good memories spending time with Don and family at their trailer in Lake Okoboji. Vi enjoyed playing cards and the bridge groups she belonged to. She had a green thumb and could make most anything grow with her TLC. Vi looked forward to watching Iowa State Cyclone’s and Iowa Hawkeye’s ballgames. Her greatest hobby was people. In her own words “I just like people”! Vi never met a person she didn’t like or have time for. She had a gift for listening without judgment. She had genuine compassion and love for family, friends, and strangers far and near. Family or not Vi welcomed you and made you feel like family, special and cared about. This extended to many four legged friends—there was no such thing as a stray cat. Lucky are those whose lives she touched.
Vi’s greatest treasure and pleasure was her very loved family. She looked forward to times spent with them and keeping up with a genuine interest in each of their activities and accomplishments, always with great pride.
Left to cherish her memory are her son Darrel (Becky) Schoeberlein of Hudson, WI, daughter- in-law Janet Schoeberlein of Waukee, IA, granddaughter Stacy (Steve) Bartlett and great grandsons Kye and Kadin Bartlett of Hudson, WI, grandson, Tate Schoeberlein of St Paul, MN, granddaughter Jill (Charlie) Folsom and great grandchildren Cami, JJ, and Lydia, of Waukee, IA, granddaughter Jenna (Ben) Pressley and great granddaughters Quinn and CeCe of Ankeny Iowa. Waiting to welcome Vi to her forever home are husband, Don, son, David, parents, Otto and Mary Andersen, and sister Beulah Erdman. Blessed be her memory.
