Violet Fox, 94, passed away on May 22, 2015, at Norwalk Nursing and Rehabilitation in Norwalk, Iowa. She was born April 14, 1921, in Humboldt, Iowa, to Floyd and Lillie Fortner.
Violet lived in the Highland Park area for 60 years until moving to Norwalk where she was currently residing. She worked at the Ordinance Plant in Ankeny making 50 caliber machine gun bullets during WWII. Violet also worked in the kitchen at Madison Elementary and was a bookkeeper at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. She was a member of the Des Moines Garden Club and loved sewing and quilting by hand.
Violet is survived by her children, Teresa (Ed) Slauson of Waukee, David (Teresa) Fox of Hampton, and Jim (Mary) Fox of Hartford; 11 grandchildren, Edward (Jennifer) Slauson, Diana (Jerry) Holm, Mark (Lisa) Slauson, Amy Slauson, Mariah Slauson, Bill (Beth) Fox, Dan (Tracy) Fox, Nick (Katie) Fox, Bryan (Emily) Fox, Tara (Sean) Lyons, and Erik Fox; 17 great-grandchildren, Katie Slauson, Ty Slauson, Kyla Slauson, Brooklyn Duncan, Madison Smith, Eli Fox, Lincoln Fox, Wren Fox, Aubrey Fox, Carissa Gilbert, Kendall Gilbert, Jayce Gilbert, Christopher Lyons, Charlie Lyons, Jonathan Lyons, William Lyons, and Michael Lyons; sister, Mabel Nygaard and brother, Wendell Fortner, both of Humboldt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Fox, and brother, Lloyd Fortner.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Avenue in Des Moines. A prayer service will begin at 3:00 p.m. at Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home, 612 2nd Avenue South, Humboldt, IA, with interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Des Moines Garden Club or the Animal Rescue League of Des Moines in loving memory of Violet.
