Walter W. Niemeyer, 99, of Humboldt, passed away February 1, 2009 at the Humboldt Care Center South. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Deer Creek Trinity Lutheran Church, Clare. Interment will be in Deer Creek Lutheran Cemetery, Clare. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home, Humboldt.
Mr. Niemeyer is survived by his son, Tim of Ames; daughter, Evelyn (Monte) Toohey of LuVerne; 6 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alva; son, Paul; daughter-in-law, Mary Niemeyer; grandchildren, Scott and Todd Toohey; brother, Wilburt Niemeyer; and sisters, Selma Niemeyer, Wanda Weiss, and Norma Fuller.
Walter William Niemeyer, the son of Edward and Anna (Meyer) Niemeyer, was born August 15, 1909 in Deer Creek Township. He attended country school and upon finishing his education took up his life-long occupation of farming. He was united in marriage to Alma Weiss in 1939 and the two made their home on the farm in Deer Creek Township. It was there that the Niemeyer’s farmed and raised livestock. In 1974 Walter retired and the family moved to Humboldt. Mrs. Niemeyer passed away in 1993 and Walter continued to maintain his home until moving to the Humboldt Care Center South in 1998. Mr. Niemeyer was a member of the Deer Creek Trinity Lutheran Church.
