Wanda Joan Olsen, the daughter of Curtis and Inez (Larson) Olsen, was born December 30, 1928 on a farm near Ringsted, Iowa. She was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Depew and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Ringsted. After graduating from Seneca Consolidated Schools in 1946, Wanda attended Waldorf College and Upper Iowa University receiving her B.A. Degree. She began her teaching career in Titonka and Estherville before moving to Swea City where she met Robert C. Jacobson. The couple was united in marriage on May 30, 1954 in the Blakjar Lutheran Church at Fenton. They were blessed with four children, Thomas, Cynthia, Cheryl, and Sondra. Wanda continued to teach and with Bob’s loving help, raised their children in a loving home. She taught in the school districts of Plover, Maynard, Center Point, and Riceville, being careful not to teach in the same school where Bob served as superintendent.
They bought a farm near Riceville where they farmed, raised hogs, and maintained a super garden. After a few years, they moved to Lost Island where they bought the golf coarse and owned and operated it together for three years until moving to Ruthven. On May 30, 2014, the couple celebrated 60 years of marriage and in September of last year, they moved to Humboldt.
Wanda was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Humboldt. She enjoyed the home they built together on Lost Island Lake and loved her family and the memories they created, especially lutefisk and lefse at Christmas.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Robert of Humboldt; her children, Thomas (Mary) Jacobson of Riverside, Iowa, Cheryl (Craig) Lyon of Storm Lake, and Sondra (Jim) Dyer of Indianola; grandchildren, Samuel Lyon, Kate Lyon, Jacob Lyon, Jennifer Dyer, Jamie (Mike) O’Donnell, Kari Dyer, and Megan Dyer; great grandchildren, Madeline and Drew O’Donnell; sister, LeAnn (Jerry) Beaver of Beaumont, CA; and sisters-in-law, Donna Olsen of Great Bend, KS, and Helene Ward of Klamath Falls, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Cynthia in 1982; brothers, Gaylord, Gerald, and Lowell Olsen; sisters, Harriett (Everett) Zitterich, Alyse (Ray) Barker, and Blanche (Howard) Preston.
