Wendy Downs, 58, of Dakota City, passed away October 27, 2015 at her home.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Gene Broughton Officiating. Interment will be in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Wendy Pedersen, the daughter of Nels “Chris” and Helen (Hamlow) Pedersen, was born February 16, 1957 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was raised on the family farm near Humboldt and received her education in Humboldt Community Schools. Following her education, Wendy served as a caretaker for most of her life. She worked as a CAN at the South Care and Rotary Ann Nursing Homes and at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital.
On June 9,1978, Wendywas united in marriage to William Downs and the couple made their home In Dakota City. She was employed at the Fort Dodge Labs until quitting to care for her ailing husband until his death in 2000. She then went to work as a home health care provider for Hospice and as a teachers associate at the Humboldt Middle School.
Wendy was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed shopping and garage sales, drag racing and snowmobiling. In her pastime, she loved listening to music, cross-stitching, crocheting, being around water and especially loved the beach. Above all, Wendy loved her family, which included Clark her cat.
Wendy is survived by her children, William (Crystal) Downs of Dakota City, and Cynthia (Joe) Egdorf of Humboldt; her mother, Helen Pedersen of Humboldt; grandchildren, Kyle Egdorf, Hunter Egdorf, Holly Egdorf, Hudson Egdorf, Braden Downs, and Kipten Downs; brother, Tim (Chris)Pedersen of Humboldt; and sisters, Sheila (Larry) Madison of Humboldt and Kristi Day of Humboldt. She was preceded in death by her husband and father.
