Yvonne C. State, 102, of Humboldt, passed away on Monday evening, February 11, 2019 at the Humboldt Care Center South.
She was born July 12, 1916 in Humboldt, the daughter of Chester A. and Nancy Jane (Morris) Joenks. She grew up in Humboldt and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1934. She was united in marriage to Laurence G. State on April 25, 1943 in Gilmore City. She had been living in Spencer with her daughter and son-in-law the last 10 years before returning to Humboldt to the South Care Center. Yvonne worked at Clayton Variety Store, the Coca Cola where her father was the plant manager, Council Oak Grocery Store, AAA Agriculture Office and Hollar’s Electric and Toy Store. She served as President, 1st Vice President and secretary of the American Legion Auxiliary and has been a member for 51 years. She worked 20 in the kitchen at Bingo. She was the secretary-treasurer of the city association women’s bowling, 12 years secretary-treasurer of women’s Hawkeye league and president of the Friday afternoon bowling league. She served 40 years as executive director of the Humboldt County American Red Cross. She served on the Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary Board for 6 years. She was chairman and co-chairman of the Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary blood drive for many years. She was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church and held several offices in Royal Neighbors.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Ray) Lathrop of Spencer, her granddaughter, Laurie Ashbrook, her great-granddaughter, Claire Ashbrook and her sister, Gretchen Clay of Humboldt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Laurence.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 15th with visitation after 10:00 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. Memorials in her name may be left to her family.
